Centre sanctions Rs 60 crore for Mizoram district, BJP credits local support

Aizawl, Mar 23 (UNI) The central government has sanctioned Rs 60 crore for multiple development projects in Siaha district, southern Mizoram, the state unit of the BJP announced on Sunday.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government, a senior BJP leader said the funding reflects New Delhi’s focus on balanced regional development.
The leader attributed the centre’s generous allocation to the electoral wisdom of Siaha’s people, who elected two BJP legislators — Dr. K. Beichhua from Saiha constituency and K. Hrahmo from Palak — in the 2023 state assembly polls. "The people of Siaha have shown vision by supporting BJP candidates, and this is the reward for their faith," he said.
Among the key projects approved are the construction of the Maraland Centenary Hospital, a Multi-purpose Youth Centre, the Mara Tribal Girls Hostel at Zotlang in Aizawl, school infrastructure under the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), a Cold Storage, and Spice Grinding Unit for MADC, and a Multipurpose Hall at Tipa.
The BJP leader emphasised that these projects demonstrate how Mizoram can experience large-scale development if the party is given a clear mandate in the 2028 assembly elections.
He also addressed the perception of the BJP as a party incompatible with the Christian-majority population of Mizoram, saying, "For long, the Congress has painted the BJP as anti-Christian or a Hindu-centric party. This is far from the truth. We are a pro-development party that does not discriminate based on religion, and we hope that more people in Mizoram will recognise this."
