Chandogarh: BJP opposes house tax, meets CS to demand its withdrawal

Chandigarh, Apr 3 (UNI) The BJP on Thursday opposed the implementation of house tax in Chandigarh and demanded an immediate rollback.
A BJP delegation led by its state chief Jitendra Pal Malhotra, and comprising Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, party councilors and senior leaders met the Chief Secretary and demanded an immediate rollback of the tax.
The BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary (CS), stating that this tax imposes an unnecessary financial burden on the people and is completely unacceptable.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla stated “The people of Chandigarh are already struggling with inflation. Imposing a house tax on them is completely unjust. The BJP stands firmly with the people and will fight against this anti-people tax at all levels.”
Malhotra warned the administration, saying, “Chandigarh citizens are already receiving several benefits from the central government. In such a situation, imposing a new tax through the municipal corporation is unfair. If the administration does not withdraw this tax immediately, the BJP will take to the streets and launch a major protest.” UNI GS SSP
