China, US hold trade talks in Geneva - Reports

Beijing, May 10 (UNI) China and the United States held high-level negotiations on the economy and trade in the Swiss city of Geneva on Saturday, state-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported.
The talks between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent began at 10:00 a.m. local time (08:00 GMT).
The Chinese Commerce Ministry said ahead of the meeting that Beijing was open to dialogue on tariffs with the US but would firmly safeguard its interests while upholding the established order of global trade.
A trade war broke out between the US and China after President Donald Trump imposed several rounds of tariffs on Chinese imports that now total 145%. China retaliated with 125% tariffs on American goods.
On Thursday, the New York Post newspaper reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that the Trump administration was considering agreeing to scale China tariffs back to 50-54% as early as next week as part of Geneva talks.
