Congress has history of opposing reservation: Samrat

Patna, Apr 27 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Sunday said Congress has been opposing reservation for backwards and deprived since long.
Chaudhary, also senior BJP leader while addressing a meeting of Dalits organised by his party here, said that Congress had been opposing reservation for backwards and deprived since long. Even first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had opposed reservation idea of Bheem Rao Ambedkar and had also written letters to Chief Ministers of states across the country in this connection, he pointed out.
" Congress top leadership had hatched conspiracy to ensure defeat of Bheem Rao Ambedkar in Lok Sabha elections", BJP leader said adding that even former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi had opposed reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) during debate when related bill was introduced by V P Singh government in parliament in 1990.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working as per vision of Ambedkar for upliftment of Dalits. Altogether 80 percent of deprived(Dalits) were getting benefits of health insurance scheme under Ayushman Bharat Yojna, he stated.
" NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has increased scholarship for dalit students from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per month from the financial year
2025-26 ", Deputy Chief Minister said adding that RJD government had conducted Panchayats elections in 2001 without making provision for oppressed and deprived section of the society. BJP was committed to protect interests of all sections of the society particularly those oppressed and deprived, he asserted.
