Court grants Elgaar Parishad case accused second interim bail for law exam

Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) A special court here on Thursday granted second time interim bail to activist Mahesh Raut, arrested in the Elgaar Parishad case, to enable him to attend law examination.
Raut was erlier also granted the same relief by the Bombay High Court for attending the previous exam.
While allowing his plea court had directed Navi Mumbai police to provide him police escort to attend the exam in a law college between April 4 and 9 and take him back to the jail after the exam is over.
“The state shall waive off the escort charges, considering present facts, circumstances and the status of the accused/applicant,” the court said.
Raut, 36, was one of the first five to have been arrested in the controversial Elgar Parishad case .
Sixteen writers, journalists, activists and lawyers were arrested in the case. Some have got bail after lengthy hearings. The case is yet to go to trial.
Raut was arrested in June 2018 and has been in jail since
In his application before the special court, Raut had sought to be permitted to appear for his ATKT exam (allowed to keep terms) and viva assignment presentation this week.
