CPI-M trying to regain ground in Tripura, West Bengal

CPI-M trying to regain ground in Tripura, West Bengal

Agartala, May 12 (UNI) While launching a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, CPI-M general secretary MA Baby on Monday said that both Tripura and West Bengal have been suffering from lawlessness and maladministration under the BJP and Trinamool Congress rule.

Baby addressed the first meeting of the newly constituted CPI-M state committee in Tripura on Saturday and reviewed the party’s activity, political situation, and future plan of action.

Addressing the media, he asserted that the first priority of CPI-M was to regain its lost bastions in Tripura and West Bengal. BJP resorted to a “reign of terror” in Tripura to suppress public dissent. The government is unable to stand before the people because it has isolated itself from the masses, and to cover up its failures, BJP enforced fear across the state.

“The recently concluded party congress discussed how concerted efforts can be made in Tripura and West Bengal,” Baby said. "People in general are finding it very hard to get work in Tripura. Mass migration of people in search of work is a reality in the state," he said.

He said the party would play a pivotal role in uniting secular and democratic forces in the run-up to the upcoming elections. In the election to Bihar, CPI-M has decided to make all efforts to bring secular, democratic forces under one roof to fight against BJP, he added.

Seeking clarification from the Indian government over the role of third-party mediation in India-Pakistan ceasefire talks, Baby questioned the involvement of the United States and asked, “Why does India need a third party like the US to mediate with Pakistan? Does it not undermine India’s sovereignty," he asked.
