Crime against women increasing in BJP govt: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Mar 19 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said that incidents of crime against women are increasing continuously under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said, "Women, sisters and daughters are unsafe in Uttar Pradesh. Heinous incidents are happening with women in districts every day in UP. The law-and-order situation has deteriorated a lot and the criminals no longer fear the police."

He said, "Will any action be taken against those who killed a daughter in Prayagraj and hanged her body from a tree to show off? The issue of women's safety in UP has been limited to BJP slogans only."

The SP chief said that just like Prayagraj, incidents of crime, rape, molestation and murder against women are continuously coming to the fore in the state. "The BJP government's claim of zero tolerance on women's safety and crime has become zero. In the government that sings the song of zero tolerance on law and order and crime, women employees and officers are the victims of harassment," he said.

He said that the story of the female deputy jailer in Varanasi is very serious. "The safety of women in the state remains a matter of concern," he said.

Akhilesh said that many works were done for women's safety in the Samajwadi government. "Women Helpline 1090 service was started, through which women could complain about the incidents happening with them and seek protection, but the BJP government ruined everything. Similarly, this government also ruined the Dial 100 service," he alleged.

He said that the '1090' model dedicated to 'women's safety' started in UP during the reign of the SP government is now being adopted by the Rajasthan government. "It is hoped that this will create an effective and meaningful system for women's safety in Rajasthan," he said.

The SP chief said, "Women have always been important as half of the population in the PDA movement, that is why such protective steps were taken in the Samajwadi government to instil a sense of security and confidence in every girl and woman. Positive work becomes an inspiration for positive politics, it is the biggest achievement of the work of the SP dedicated to the society."
