Thiruvananthapurm, Mar 24 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and AICC Working Committee Member Ramesh Chennithala has said serious social issues facing by Dalit communities will be raised with the Central and State Governments.
The issues and suggestions discussed at the 'Dalit Progressive Conclave-2025' will be taken up with the State and the Central authorities to find a solution to uplift the marginalised sections in the country, Chennithala said.
"About 25 crore Dalit people, constituting 16.6 percent of countrys population, are still marginalized."
The Conclave has been organised by the Gandhi Gramam Foundation, which was formed in 2010 when Ramesh Chennithala was President of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
Though Rs 3000 crore is earmarked for various SC/ST projects, even Rs 1500 crore is not allocated for such projects currently, showing negligence from the part of the authorities, the Conclave pointed out.
Alleging that SC/ST sections are being denied social justice in Kerala, Chennithala, who presided over the event, said Dalit communities are being further impoverished by Governments by subverting various norms of reservation guaranteed for them in the Constitution, leading to their backwardness.
