DC Shimla issues high alert for monsoon

Shimla, July 1 (UNI) In light of the ongoing monsoon and heightened risk of landslides, flash floods, and disruption to essential services, Shimla District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has issued a strong advisory to ensure 24x7 preparedness across all subdivisions.
Citizens are urged to stay vigilant, especially in vulnerable areas near riverbanks, and cooperate with local authorities.
All Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), DSPs, and officers from departments like PWD, Jal Shakti, Health, and Electricity have been directed to remain on high alert round-the-clock. Rescue and relief teams have been instructed to ensure a maximum response time of 15 minutes in case of any disaster.
Residents are advised to stay away from temporary shelters set up near riverbanks. SDMs of Rampur, Kumarsain, and Sunni have been told to enhance preparedness for water-related rescue operations.
With the apple season underway, the administration has prioritized the smooth movement of apple-laden vehicles. Blocked routes are being restored on a war footing. Public Works officials have been told to fix all roads immediately to avoid any delay in apple transport.
Citizens are urged to report water shortages or electricity disruptions. Jal Shakti and HPSEB departments are working to restore silted or rain-damaged projects and ensure clean water and power supply, even during heavy rain.
People with prior disaster response experience or community leadership roles are encouraged to coordinate with their local SDMs. Quick response teams are being deployed in every subdivision.
For emergencies, residents are advised to contact their local SDM office or post alerts via the District Disaster Management Authority’s WhatsApp group, the advisory said.
