Bhopal, July 1 (UNI) Hemant Vijay Khandelwal (60) was today chosen unopposed as the new President of the Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Khandelwal, the BJP MLA from Betul, was the only one to file nomination for the post during the nomination process held at the BJP Headquarters at Bhopal this morning in the presence of the election in-charge union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, election officer Vijay Narayan Shejwalkar and election observer Saroj Pandey.
MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav escorted Khandelwal to the stage, to file his nomination.
Yadav, Union Agriculture Minister and former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and outgoing state chief and Lok Sabha Member from Khajuraho Vishnu Dutt Sharma proposed Khandelwal's name for the top slot.
Born on September 3, 1964 at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, Khandelwal was elected to the Lok Sabha from Betul in 2008, through a by-poll after the death of his father Vijay Khandelwal, who was till then the Lok Sabha Member.
Hemant Khandelwal was the MLA from Betul from 2013 to 2018. He was again elected the BJP MLA from the seat in 2023.
Hemant Khandelwal has been the Betul district BJP President, and the treasurer of the MP BJP.
Presently, he is the chairman of the Kushabhau Thakre Trust too.
