Defamation case: Delhi Court gives last chance to BJP MP to reply

New Delhi, May, 14 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Wednesday granted the last opportunity to Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP Bansuri Swaraj to reply to the Criminal Revision petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Former MLA Satyendar Jain in a defamation case.

Special Judge for MPs/MLAs cases, Jitendra Singh, after hearing the matter, said, following the request from the respondent's counsel that she be given some time to file a reply to the revision petition, "One last and final opportunity" was being granted to her.

The court directed that the reply should be filed on June 3, the next date of hearing, with advance copy to the opposite party.

"Accordingly, the matter stands adjourned. Be listed for reply and arguments on 03.06.2025," said the judge.

The date has been fixed in consultation with the counsels of both the petitioner and the respondent.

Satyendar Jain had filed a Criminal Revision Petition defined under section 438, 440 of Bhartiya Naagrik Suraksha sanhita (BNSS) against the order of a trial court which has dismissed Jain's plea..

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Neha Mittal after hearing on February, 20 dismissed Jain's defamation complaint saying there ws no sufficient ground for taking cognisance of the offence.

Jain alleged that Swaraj made certain defamatory statements against him in her interview which was aired on October 5, .2023 on a news channel with the intent to defame him and gain undue political advantage.

Counsel for Jain stated that Swaraj is a practising advocate and a Former Minister, who is followed by the people in the capital.

He stated that in the interview, she made defamatory statements against him in the context of the ED raid at his house.

Swaraj had alleged that Rs.3 Crore cash, 1.8 kg gold and 133 gold coins were recovered from Jain's home during the raid.

He alleged that the statements were intended to tarnish his reputation and gain undue political advantage. UNI XC SSP
