DGP Khurania stresses need for extensive security arrangements during upcoming festivals in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Mar 21 (UNI) Odisha DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Friday emphasized the need for extensive security arrangements by the police in light of four major upcoming festivals in the state.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 31, Shri Ram Navami on April 6, Hanuman Jayanti on April 14, and Maha Bishuba Sankranti on April 14.
To ensure the safety and security of the public during these occasions, the DGP chaired a review meeting at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack.
He directed senior officers to ensure that all festivals were celebrated in an orderly manner. He also advised maintaining a high state of alert at all times and taking proactive measures to gather advance intelligence on any potential incidents, ensuring immediate and well-planned action in response.
The DGP particularly emphasized the need to monitor and counter the spread of rumors and misleading information on social media. He recommended round-the-clock surveillance of various social media platforms by district cyber cells and instructed that a special workshop be conducted by the State Crime Branch to enhance the preparedness of police officers and personnel.
Additionally, the DGP directed SPs and senior police officers across all districts to implement special security measures, including intensified patrolling in sensitive areas, strict checking, restrictions on processions, installation of CCTV cameras in key locations, and the deployment of AI-powered surveillance systems for intelligence gathering.
Khurania also suggested forming peace committees and conducting meetings with various community groups to foster good relations with local representatives. He emphasized taking action against habitual offenders and identifying individuals spreading false information.
He stated that special security arrangements would be made during padayatra and bike rallies. He also directed officers to remain prepared for any unforeseen situations.
With rising temperatures expected during the festival period, the DGP stressed the importance of making appropriate arrangements for the welfare of both the public and police personnel on duty.
The meeting was attended by Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Binaytosh Mishra, Additional Director General of Police (Modernization) Saumendra Priyadarshi, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, and many senior police officers via virtual mode.
