Drug peddler booked under PIT NDPS Act in J&K’s Anantnag

Srinagar, Mar 21 (UNI) Police have booked an alleged drug peddlers using the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Sirhama Srigufwara , was found actively involved in drug peddling, posing a significant threat to public health and safety.
“After a thorough investigation and collection of substantial evidence, necessary approvals were obtained from the competent authority for his detention under the PIT NDPS Act,” a police statement said.

Following due legal procedures, the accused was lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.

Meanwhile, Police in Anantnag district attached properties worth Rs 75 lakhs belonging to two alleged notorious drug peddlers under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

Police said acting under section 68-F of the NDPS Act, they attached a cement-concrete plinth along with one kanal of land belonging to Tariq Ahmad Lone, a resident of Satkipora.

“The property, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakhs, was identified as illegally acquired through drug trafficking. The accused is involved in FIR No. 48/2019 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Srigufwara,” police said.

In a separate action, Police Station Bijbehara in Anantnag attached commercial shops belonging to Gulzar Ahmad Rather of Waghama.
“The attachment was made in connection with FIR No. 227/2024 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Bijbehara. The property, valued at ₹15 lakhs, was confirmed as proceeds of drug-related activities,” the police said.
