Duodecennial celebration of Manipur High Court observed

Imphal, Mar 23 (UNI)The duodecennial Celebration of the High Court of Manipur was observed here on Sunday to mark the completion of 12 years of establishment of the High Court of Manipur.
Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, laid the foundation stone for constructing the District and Sessions Court building of Churachandpur and also announced the creation of new positions within the Chief Justice Secretariat of the High Court.
Governor said, Manipur has a rich judicial legacy starting from the ancient times of the Courts of Kutchu and Pacha. With time, the judicial administration in the State transcended through various establishments - The Cheirap Court which still stands nestled in the heart of Imphal City, is one of the most important judicial establishments in history. In the pre-independence era, the Manipur State Durbar used to hold both original and appellate jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters.
Governor said that reflecting the cherished judicial legacy, all believe that this day holds profound significance as it marks not just the passing of another year but a celebration of the continuing journey of justice, fairness, and equality for all citizens of our State.
Congratulating the Chief Justices and the Judges of the High Court of Manipur, the Governor said, all have worked tirelessly with dedication to ensure that the rule of law prevails in our state. Appreciating the presence of Judges of the Supreme Court of India, and the Law and Justice Minister, the Governor said, it is a clear reflection of the attention and the care that the entire nation has towards our state.
Governor further stated that the day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress the state has made in the last decade, since the establishment of the High Court of Manipur. He also expressed confidence that the High Court of Manipur will continue to serve the people by ensuring a speedy justice delivery and the efforts of the court will inspire the younger generations in the days to come.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, speaking on the occasion expressed hope that peace will return to Manipur which has been in a major crisis for about two years now. He appealed to all to work for peace in a united Manipur. Restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur will ensure overall growth he further said. He said the Manipur High Court has achieved success in various fields.
Justice B.R. Gavai, Seniormost Judge, Supreme Court of India cum Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Judges of Supreme Court of India, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice M.M. Sundresh, Justice K.V. Viswanathan and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh also attended the celebration.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Judges of Manipur High Court, Justice D. Krishnakumar, Justice A. Bimol Singh, Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma, and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, also attended the celebration.
