Dy CM Vikramarka slams BRS govt over fiscal mismanagement

Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka launched a scathing attack on the previous KCR-led BRS government, accusing it of accumulating massive debts without maintaining fiscal discipline.
During the general discussion on the 2025-26 budget in the Assembly, Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the then BRS government for spending Rs 16.70 lakh crore over the last decade without tangible development. He questioned what had been accomplished with such a large expenditure.
"Was Nagarjuna Sagar built with Rs 16.70 lakh crore? Was SRSP constructed? Was the Outer Ring Road (ORR) or the airport built with that money? Rs 1 lakh crore was spent on Kaleshwaram alone, and it has collapsed. Rs 77,000 crore is owed to Singareni. Were two-bedroom houses built in any village in ten years?" he asked.
He further pointed out that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had revealed that Rs 2.30 lakh crore was spent without Assembly approval.
He alleged that the previous government repeatedly failed to utilize its allocated budget, citing unspent funds of Rs 8,000 crore in 2016-17, Rs 40,000 crore in 2018-19, Rs 48,000 crore in 2021-22, over Rs 52,000 crore in 2022-23, and Rs 58,571 crore in 2023-24.
Bhatti Vikramarka also criticised the sale of the ORR for a 30-year period for just Rs 7,000 crore, He accused the BRS government of taking advance revenues meant for the next administration and failing to fulfill its promises, thereby deceiving the people of Telangana.
The deputy chief minister stated that the budget was not increased arbitrarily, unlike the previous government. He criticised the BRS government for raising the budget by 10-15 per cent every year, warning that such an approach would have pushed it beyond Rs 4.18 lakh crore.
"We did not increase the budget in an unplanned manner like the previous government. Instead, we adopted a realistic approach and raised it by only 4.7 per cent, bringing it to Rs 3.04 lakh crore. We reduced the budget and presented the facts transparently. Our government is committed to making only feasible promises and ensuring their fulfilment," he said.
He further assured that the government would strive to implement the budget effectively and ensure 100 per cent utilisation of allocated funds.
