Eight pistols recovered from two unclaimed bags in Agartala train

Agartala, May 8 (UNI) The Railway Police on Thursday recovered eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines from two unclaimed bags at Agartala Railway Station.
GRP (Government Railway Police) In-charge, Tapas Das, said the bags were found in a general coach of a train that arrived from Firozpur. During routine duty in the standing train RPF (Railway Protection Force) jawans noticed the unattended luggage and reported it to Das.
β€œIn search of the bags, we found eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines. No live ammunition was recovered,” Das said.
Senior police officials led by Director General Anurag visited the spot shortly after the recovery to assess the situation.
According to Das, the train arrived early morning and the bags were found around 8am . Besides arms, the bags also contained clothes, medicines, and other personal belongings.
β€œA case has been registered against and a detailed investigation is underway,” Das added.
Following the recovery of weapons, security has been amped up at the railway station and its surrounding areas. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and checking passenger records to trace the origin of the bags and identify the culprits.
