Ongole, May 4 (UNI) Five persons were killed and three others injured in two accidents, which took place at the same place, on the Chennai-Kolkata highway, near here in the wee hours on Sunday.
Police said that an egg-laden lorry, which was going to Nellore from Bhavanagiri in Telangana state, overturned on the highway.
At the same time, another lorry rammed the overturned, egg-laden lorry. Three persons who were in the overturned, egg-laden lorry were killed in the incident. The deceased were identified as Ramanaiah (60), R Babu (40) and Nagendra (45).
Following the accident, the traffic on the highway was disrupted, resulting in a large number of vehicles stranded on the road. At the same time, a speeding lorry rammed a car, which was stranded in the traffic, some distance away from the first accident.
The car was sandwiched between two lorries, killing T Pavani (35) and T Koushik (14). Four persons travelling in the car were injured, and they were admitted to the RIMS hospital. The police removed the ill-fated vehicles from the road and cleared the traffic.
