Ranchi, May 6 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday levelled serious allegations against the Central government, claiming it had prior intelligence about a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, following which Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to the Union Territory.
Addressing the Samvidhan Bachao (Save Constitution) rally here, Kharge said, “When the intelligence agencies had expressed a fear of a terrorist attack and after this information, the Prime Minister cancelled his Kashmir visit, then why did the government not alert everyone about it?”
Kharge further asserted that he had received information, corroborated by media reports, that an intelligence warning had been issued three days before the attack.
“I got the information and have also seen in some newspapers that three days before the terror attack, an intelligence report was sent to Modiji, following which he cancelled his Kashmir visit,” he said.
“When the intelligence agencies said that your visit to Kashmir is not safe, then why did you not share the same information with the local authorities there?”
While strongly criticising the government's handling of the security situation, Kharge also reaffirmed his party’s commitment to national unity and security.
He further said that the government had also accepted that there was intelligence failure on their part.
“The Congress party has told the government that we are fully with them in this fight against terrorism and Pakistan,” he said. UNI RBE SSP
