Govt to subsidise plastic wraper on grape fields: Maha minister

Mumbai, Mar 20 (UNI) The damage caused by unseasonal rains, hailstorms and stormy winds to sensitive grapefruit crop can be avoided with the plastic cover, said Minister Dadaji Bhuse in the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday.
While replying to a question in the lower house, he said that the government is positive about giving a subsidy for plastic cover.
He further said that a fund of Rs 193 crore has been sanctioned for the losses incurred by grape growers in Nashik district due to unseasonal rains between July and October 2024.
Additionally, a compensation of Rs 96 lakh has been approved for damage incurred from November to December 2024, he informed.
Bhuse also informed that police action was taken in cases where farmers were cheated by traders due to non-payment of money.
A fund of Rs 805 lakh has also been sanctioned for the losses incurred by farmers in Sangli district during this period.
Farmers whose orchards have been damaged will be given compensation at the rate of Rs 36,000 per hectare for fruit orchards as per the government rule, he added.
