Srinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) A Court in Srinagar has issued a pre-cognizance notice to the Directors and Editor of ELLE India, over a recent controversial fashion show in Gulmarg on March 7.
The Court of Special Mobile Magistrate Srinagar issued pre-cognizance notice on March 11 to Shivan and Narresh, the designers who organised the fashion show and Editor-in-Chief of ELLE India after a complaint was lodged by the leader of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), Adil Nazir Khan, through Advocate Naveed Bukhtiyar.
Khan had filed a complaint in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar under 210 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), seeking action under section 296 (deals with obscene acts and songs in public places), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) BNS and 50 A of the Jammu and Kashmir Excise Act, 1958, against the organizers of a fashion show for obscenity, hurting religious sentiments during the month of Ramadan, and publicly consumption of alcohol.
The complaint was shifted from CJM to Special Mobile Magistrate Srinagar.
The court has issued a pre-cognizance notice to Directors and Editor.
The court has fixed the next date of hearing for April 8, 2025.
An outdoor fashion show in the ski resort of Gulmarg Kashmir on March 7 landed in major controversy after the pictures and video of the show surfaced on social media, triggering widespread backlash with Kashmir’s politicians terming it “outrageous” and “obscene”.
While Elle India pulled down the reel on the fashion show, the designer duo Shivan and Narresh tendered an unconditional apology.
