HAL's order book at Rs 1.84 lakh crore, revenue Rs 30,400 crore

Bengaluru, Mar 31 (UNI) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has achieved a record-high order book of Rs 1,84,000 crore, significantly boosted by a landmark contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the supply of 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) 'Prachand' worth Rs 62,777 crore.
This marks the largest-ever procurement by the MoD from HAL, underscoring the company’s growing role in India's defence sector.
The massive surge in HAL’s order book reflects its increasing importance in defence manufacturing. The order book stood at Rs 1,84,000 crore at the end of the fiscal, compared to the opening position of Rs 94,129 crore. During 2024-25, the company secured new manufacturing contracts worth Rs 1,02,000 crore and Repair and Overhaul (ROH) contracts valued at Rs 17,500 crore.
In addition to the LCH contract, HAL signed agreements for the supply of 12 additional Su-30 MKI aircraft, the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of 40 Do-228 aircraft, the supply of 240 AL31FP engines for Su-30 MKI, and an avionics upgrade for an IL-78 aircraft. Notably, the first AL31FP engine was delivered within a month of signing the contract. These deals further solidify HAL’s position as the backbone of India’s aerospace and defence industry.
The fiscal year 2024-25 also saw HAL achieving a significant milestone by becoming the first Defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) to attain 'Maharatna' status, reinforcing its strategic importance to India's defence capabilities.
Financially, the company recorded a revenue of Rs 30,400 crore (provisional and unaudited) for the financial year ended March 31, 2025, marginally higher than the Rs 30,381 crore posted in the previous fiscal.
However, the company faced operational challenges, particularly in the deliveries of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). "This achievement was despite the shortfall in deliveries of LCA and ALH. The deliveries of LCA were affected due to non-availability of engines. The ALH delivery schedule too got hit due to the accident in January 2025 and subsequent grounding of the fleet. However, the deliveries of other products and services were accelerated, which helped us to maintain the top line," said Dr D K Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director, HAL.
Amid these hurdles, HAL focused on bolstering its production capabilities. Additional assembly lines for LCA and HTT-40 aircraft were established, alongside the expansion of aero-engine capacity at Koraput. These capacity enhancements are expected to support future deliveries and ensure smooth execution of its large order pipeline.
With supply chain issues stabilising, a strong order book, and enhanced production capacities, HAL is gearing up for improved physical and financial performance in the fiscal year 2025-26, setting the stage for sustained growth in India's defence manufacturing sector. UNI BDN SSP
