Heat and heat wave affect life in UP, orange alert issued

Lucknow, May 15 (UNI) Due to no effective weather system being active in Uttar Pradesh and hot westerly winds coming at the surface level, a significant increase in temperature was recorded, and an orange alert has been issued in the state.
Banda was hit by a heat wave in the state with a temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Prayagraj and Hamirpur also crossed the 44-degree mark. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of a further increase in temperature during the next 24 hours.
The regional spread of the heat wave is likely to increase in the eastern part of the state on May 16, and it is likely to reach western UP. However, due to easterly winds blowing from May 17, drizzle/light rain is expected in the Terai areas of the state, due to which the temperature will start decreasing from the northern part of the state, but sporadic activities of heat wave are likely to continue in the southern part till May 18.
During this time, due to an increase in night temperature in some areas of eastern UP, hot night conditions are likely to develop in some places. Due to the combined effect of both of these, an orange alert has been issued in some districts of the state.
