Herald case: Telangana Congress leaders protest at ED office

Agitation-Telangana-Congress

Hyderabad, Apr 17 (UNI) Telangana Congress leaders on Thursday protested at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office against the filing of an ED chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

State Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud along with senior party leaders and ministers including Ponnam Prabhar and Tummala Nageswara Rao took out a rally from Gun Park located in front of the Assembly to the ED office. They staged a sit-in and alleged that the Central agency probing the money laundering case was biased against the Gandhis.

Goud alleged that the Modi government and the BJP were using the agency to oppress the political opponents. He recalled the sacrifices of the members of the Nehru-Gandhi family and hit out at the government’s tactics to silence the key opposition party.

“The Narendra Modi government is unable to politically counter the Congress and that’s why it has resorted to harassing the party leadership,” said Ponnam Prabhakar. “The government has adopted such measures whenever it has found itself cornered in Parliament,” Prabhakar said.

“This (the ED action) is a politically motivated act of harassment. Such harassment is not justified against Sonia Gandhi, who is 78 years old. The National Herald newspaper has fought for the independence of the country,” the Minister added.

He said it was not right to ignore corruption committed by NDA allies and focus solely on rivals to gain political advantage. “Harassing a family with a spotless political record is unacceptable,” Prabhakar said.

"The Telangana Congress stands with the Gandhi family in condemning the conspiracies being carried out by those who are selling the entire country to the Adani and Ambani groups, the Minister alleged.
