Himachal CM leads candlelight march to protest Pahalgam terror attack

Shimla, Apr 25 (UNI) Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today led a solemn candlelight march in Shimla, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, to protest the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Starting from Sher-e-Punjab and culminating at the historic Ridge Maidan, the candlelight march witnessed participation from top Congress leaders and hundreds of party workers. The leaders paid heartfelt tributes to the 26 victims of the terror attack, and expressed unwavering solidarity with the bereaved families.
Prominent figures in attendance included Rajya Sabha MP and AICC in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil, HPCC President Pratibha Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Col (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, HPTDC Chairman R.S. Bali, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister strongly condemned the cowardly attack and declared that such brutal acts against innocent people would not be tolerated. “The Congress party stands united with the Union Government in the fight against terrorism. We vow to eliminate the external forces attempting to disrupt the peace and security of our nation,” he asserted.
He also paid homage to former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifices for national unity and integrity.
Earlier in the day, two minutes of silence was observed at the H.P. Secretariat in memory of the victims.
The tribute was led by the Chief Minister and attended by several senior officials, including Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLA Anuradha Rana, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, and other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the entire nation stands in solidarity with the affected families, and a strong message must be sent to those who seek to destabilise India's sovereignty. “This is a dark hour, and the grief is shared by every Indian,” he said.
