Himachal: Heavy rain or snowfall may increase cold wave in next four days: IMD

Shimla, March 12 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning Wednesday predicting another spell of major rain and snowfall from the Wednesday night to Sunday evening.
IMD has predicted that fresh Inclement weather conditions may increase cold wave and cause traffic, road and power disruptions in some places of the state.
Temperatures are expected to drop gradually, with minimum temperatures falling by 2-3°C over the next 3-4 days and maximum temperatures decreasing by 3-5°C in the next 2-3 days.
The alert comes as a western disturbance, currently positioned over West Afghanistan and neighbouring regions, is expected to bring widespread precipitation across the state.
The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across various districts of Himachal Pradesh. Light snowfall is expected at many places, with moderate spells likely in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and the higher reaches of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, and Kullu districts from the morning of March 13 to the evening of March 16.
Tourist destinations such as Manali, Solang Valley, and Sissu are also expected to experience light to moderate snowfall during this period.
In the lower regions, light rainfall is predicted in many areas, with moderate spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Solan, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, and parts of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Kullu districts. Shimla city and its adjoining areas are likely to see light rain from March 13 to March 16.
The moderate spells of rain and snowfall may lead to several challenges, including slippery roads, low visibility, traffic congestion, and possible vehicle collisions.
Localized essential services and outdoor activities could also be affected. The IMD has advised residents and travelers to drive carefully, limit outdoor activities, and follow safety measures during the wet spell.
A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for isolated places in the mid-hills from March 12 to March 13, and for lower hills and plain areas from March 14 to March 15.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors, avoid travel if possible, and keep away from water bodies and electrical equipment during thunderstorms.
The state government and concerned departments have been urged to issue necessary advisories to ensure public safety.
