Kashmir continues to receive intermittent rainfall

Srinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) Intermittent rainfall persisted across the plains of Kashmir Valley for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, while higher reaches, including the ski resort of Gulmarg, received another spell of fresh snowfall over the past 24 hours.

According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, the wet weather is expected to continue across Jammu and Kashmir until the weekend.

Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley were lashed by intermittent rains, leading to a drop in the temperature and disrupting the normal activities. The precipitation continued at many places across the valley.

Some higher reaches in Kashmir Valley, including the ski resort of Gulmarg, received light snowfall during the past 24 hours.

Giving parameters of rainfall, the MeT office said that the highest precipitation was recorded at Srinagar 10.6mm, followed by Kupwara 9.1 mm, Pahalgam 5.8mm and Gulmarg 5.6mm during the past 24 hours.

The Met Office forecast of light to moderate rain and snow at many places during the next 24 hours, while there is a possibility of intermittent light to moderate rain/snow at many places during March 15 and 16.

The weather is likely to remain dry from March 17 to 21, the MeT office said.

The MeT office has also issued an advisory for travellers, tourists, and transporters to follow admin/traffic advisory before planning their trip during the period.

The farmers have also been advised to suspend farm operations till March 18 besides, people living on the higher reaches have been asked to avoid sloppy and avalanche-prone areas during the period.

Meanwhile, the night temperature stayed 2 to 3°C above the average at many weather stations of Kashmir, while the day temperature recorded on Wednesday also improved but stayed below normal in most weather stations of the Valley.

The maximum temperature recorded in Srinagar was 0.1°C above normal of 15.1°C on Wednesday.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar slightly dropped to 7.0°C recorded during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. This was 3.3°C above the average for the place during this period of the season.

The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir remained the coldest place with a low of -0.8°C, and this was still 2.5°C above the average for the place during this period of the season, while at Pahalgam it settled at 2.5°C and Kokernag 5.4°C, the MeT office said.
