HP govt revises stage carriage bus fares; new rates effective immediately

Shimla, May 8 (UNI) The Government of Himachal Pradesh has issued revised fare rates for stage carriage bus services across the state on Thursday, a notification issued here today confirmed.
According to a notification from the Department of Transport, signed by Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) R.D. Nazeem, the new rates will come into force with immediate effect and apply uniformly to all categories of public transport buses—ordinary, deluxe, and AC/super luxury.
As per the new fare structure, the per kilometre fare for ordinary buses, including minibuses, is set at 160 paise (₹1.60) in the plains and 250 paise (₹2.50) in hill areas.
For deluxe bus services, passengers will now pay 195 paise (₹1.95) per km in the plains and 310 paise (₹3.10) in the hills. Meanwhile, the AC/super-luxury bus services will charge the highest rates—390 paise (₹3.90) per km in the plains and 520 paise (₹5.20) per km in hilly terrain.
The fares are inclusive of all taxes and are described as the maximum limit to be charged from passengers. The State Transport Authority and all Regional Transport Authorities have been directed to enforce these rates in the public interest.
The notification also mentions that future fare revisions may be proposed periodically by the Department of Transport, based on inflation and official cost indices. The Minister-in-Charge will hold the authority to take final decisions on such proposals.
This revision marks a significant adjustment in public transport costs and is expected to impact daily commuters, especially in rural and hilly regions where state-run buses remain the primary mode of transportation.
