HP Patwari-Kanungo strike ends after assurance from Revenue Minister

Shimla, Mar 12 (UNI) The 12-day-long strike of Patwaris and Kanungos in Himachal Pradesh has finally come to an end after successful negotiations with the state government.
The Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, held a crucial meeting with the Patwari-Kanungo Sangh at the Shimla Assembly on Wednesday, where the concerns of the striking employees were addressed.
The primary issue that led to the strike was the implementation of the state cadre system and its potential impact on promotions. Many Patwaris and Kanungos feared that this change would hinder their career progression. However, after extensive discussions, Minister Jagat Singh Negi assured them that their promotions would remain unaffected by the new rules.
Following this assurance, the Patwari-Kanungo Union decided to withdraw their strike unconditionally. Addressing the media after the meeting, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi stated, "Patwaris and Kanungos were on strike for a long time regarding their demands. Today, after detailed discussions, all their doubts have been cleared. The state cadre system will not impact their promotions. Now that the union has agreed, they will return to work immediately."
Confirming the decision, Satish Chaudhary, President of the Patwari-Kanungo Sangh, expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s outcome.
He said, "Today's discussion with the Revenue Minister was productive. The notification was reviewed thoroughly, and we have been assured that the R&P (Recruitment and Promotion) rules will not be altered in any adverse way. Until the new R&P rules are framed, we will trust the government’s assurance. Therefore, all Patwaris and Kanungos will resume their duties across the state starting Thursday."
The strike had caused significant delays in revenue-related work across Himachal Pradesh, affecting land records, property registrations, and other essential services. With the resolution of the conflict, normal functioning is expected to resume immediately, providing much-needed relief to the public.
The state government’s successful negotiation with the Patwari-Kanungo Union highlights its commitment to addressing employee concerns while ensuring that administrative work is not disrupted for long periods. UNI ML SSP
