HP: Shanta Kumar praises Omar Abdullah for his patriotic stand after Pahalgam massacre

Palampur, May 4 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar on Sunday lauded National Conference leader and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his candid and emotional response to the tragic Pahalgam massacre.
Terming the incident as "painful and shameful", Kumar said that while many leaders reacted, it was Omar Abdullah's words and demeanor that stood out for their sincerity and patriotism.
Shanta Kumar appreciated Abdullah’s acceptance of responsibility, stating that acknowledging the duty to protect tourists reflected mature leadership.
“He did not indulge in blame games or politics. Instead, he emotionally expressed his grief and asked, ‘In what words should I apologise to the victims?’ – that moved me,” Kumar said.
Highlighting Abdullah’s statement that he would not push for full statehood in such a crisis, Shanta Kumar called it a gesture beyond politics and a reflection of national interest. “These are the words of a true patriot,” he added.
Kumar also acknowledged the shift in stance of Farooq Abdullah, Omar’s father and a former Chief Minister himself, who, according to Kumar, had earlier advocated dialogue with Pakistan but has now declared a refusal to do so in light of Pakistan’s continued sponsorship of terrorism. UNI AR ML SSP
