Huawei-UBTech partner to boost AI-robotics development in Chinese homes and factories

Beijing, May 12 (UNI) Huawei Technologies has partnered up with UBTech Robotics to advance the development of humanoids for factories and households, as part of China’s initiative on the broader adoption of robotics in all sectors.
The agreement – signed in tech hub Shenzhen, in southern Guangdong province, where both companies are headquartered – aims to “accelerate the transition of humanoid robots from laboratory innovations” to “large-scale adoption in industrial, household and other scenarios,” reports the South China Morning Post.
As part of the initiative, the two companies plan to collaborate to create smart factories featuring humanoid robots and develop bipedal or wheeled service robots for household use.
As part of the agreement, Huawei will assist UBTech in setting up an innovation centre dedicated to “embodied intelligence”—a branch of artificial intelligence that integrates cognitive functions with physical form.
The partnership aims to capitalise on Huawei’s expanding capabilities in its proprietary Ascend and Kunpeng AI chips, along with its expertise in cloud computing and large-scale AI models, the companies said.
The Huawei–UBTech partnership underscores China’s strategic drive to advance its domestic robotics and artificial intelligence sectors amid intensifying global tech competition and ongoing US export controls.
UBTech, a leader in humanoid robotics, brings expertise in real-world robot applications, while Huawei contributes cutting-edge capabilities in AI chips, cloud infrastructure, and foundational models.
Their collaboration on embodied intelligence—a key area for next-generation robotics—could accelerate the development of more autonomous, adaptive machines in sectors such as education, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing.
The move also aligns with Beijing’s broader strategy to build self-sufficiency in next-generation technologies and position China as a global leader in smart manufacturing and automation.
