Port Louis/New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer was reportedly injured during a parachuting practice session in Port Louis, ahead of participation in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations, a report said.
The incident occurred at Champ-de-Mars, where the flag hoisting is done for the National Day celebrations.
The Akash Ganga Skydiving Team of the Indian Air Force was participating in rehearsals for the Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday afternoon.
Wing Commander AK Yadav, 45, was injured in his left leg during a parachuting exercise carried out from a C-130 military aircraft, a Mauritian daily reported.
At about 1645 hours in Mauritius, while the officer was taking part in a simulation for the festivities of March 12, “the officer made a poorly controlled landing”.
He was immediately taken care of by the authorities and rushed to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital.
Several senior officials of the Mauritian police and officers of the Indian Air Force oversaw his transfer.
The IAF officer was taken care of in the emergency room. Extensive medical examinations revealed that the officer had suffered two fractures. He was admitted for a surgical intervention. According to the latest information, the health status of Wing Commander Yadav is stable, the daily reported.
The Akash Ganga Skydiving Team of the Indian Air force participated in the National Day celebrations. An Indian Naval Ship also made a port call at Port Louis to celebrate the occasion. A marching contingent from the Indian Navy along with an Indian Navy helicopter, and a team of NCC cadets also participated in the celebrations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was Chief Guest at the National Day celebrations on March 12 in Port Louis, which also saw him being awarded the nation's highest civilian honour.
