Imphal Club lifts Chittamohini Women's polo trophy

Imphal, Mar 31 (UNI) Imphal Riding Club (IRC) has won the third Chittamohini State Women's Polo tournament. In a thrilling final IRC defeated the Assam Rifles women's polo team by a margin of 7-6 on Monday, played at the historic Imphal Polo ground.
The first Chukker saw the spirited players score three goals each. The players stormed back strongly, however, both teams managed to score one goal each. In the third Chukker, IRC players managed to lead 6-5. In the final and last Chukker both teams scored one goal each. Imphal Polo ground, the oldest living polo ground in the world, saw one of the most competitive games, with the players fighting for possession of the ball. The Skill, strength, and stamina of the players were displayed as the women players exhibited complete control of the pony and produced some of the most spectacular shots.
Organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA), the final match was witnessed by the celebrated women's weight lifter N Kunjarani. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna awardee, Olympian Kunjarani, the Chief Guest of the event, said it was heartwarming to see such a classic and competitive polo match.
Kunjarani said she was associated with polo, pony and the women players need encouragement and support so that they can excel in life and sports. The excellence shown by the players was outstanding, she said. Lt Col (Retd) N Manongba, President Manipur Equestrian Association said the support given by the Army, Assam Rifles, people, and civil societies enables the sports bodies to organize such events. Brig A Boral, DIG 9 Sector Assam Rifles, Associate Professor, N Radhapyari graced the closing ceremony as Guests of Honour.
Kh Deventy, M Priya, Th Tanna, Kh Habe, M Bijenti represented IRC while Victoria Oinam, H Pitu, Mutum Enourembi, Veronica Oinam, Th Bindi and N Laxmi represented Assam Rifles women polo team.
