Indian aid for Myanmar quake victims reaches Mizoram border

Aizawl, Apr 3 (UNI) Relief supplies dispatched by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for earthquake-affected communities in central Myanmar have reached Zokhawthar, a border village in Mizoram’s Champhai district, sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The humanitarian aid, flown in by an IAF C-17 Globemaster on Tuesday, was transported from Aizawl to Zokhawthar by the Assam Rifles using multiple trucks.
The first batch, consisting of rice, drinking water, medicines, water filters, and tents, arrived at the village around 10 am on Wednesday, with the remaining consignments following later in the day. However, Assam Rifles officials declined to disclose the total number of trucks deployed, citing the sensitivity of the matter.
Dr Sui Khar, foreign minister of the Chinland Council—an entity linked to Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG), a government-in-exile—stated that local authorities and relevant organisations had been informed to ensure the safe passage of the relief materials through Chin State. Large parts of the state are currently controlled by pro-democracy Chin resistance forces.
The relief shipment, weighing 65 metric tonnes, was flown into Mizoram aboard a US-made C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft, which landed at Lengpui Airport near Aizawl on Tuesday.
Airport officials said discussions had taken place on Monday between India’s Ministry of Home
Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Myanmar’s military junta to facilitate
the aid delivery.
