Melbourne, June 15 (UNI) Josh Hazlewood's decision to prioritise the Indian Premier League (IPL) over Australia's Test preparations has come under the scanner following the team's defeat in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.
The seasoned pacer, who has battled recurring injuries in recent years, chose to participate in the delayed IPL season instead of joining early preparations for the marquee Test event. The move has triggered debate among former players and fans alike, many questioning the commitment of senior players to the red-ball format.
"Hazlewood's fitness has been a concern for some time, and to then opt for the IPL before a major Test final doesn’t send the right message," said Mitchell Johnson, a former Test cricketer, adding that Australia must reassess its approach to player workload and priorities, especially with crucial tours like the West Indies series and Ashes looming.
