Just 48 hours enough to finish Kerala drug mafia: Chennithala

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14 (UNI) Just 48 hours is enough to wipe out the entire drug mafia from Kerala through stringent police action, former Kerala Home Minister and senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said on Friday.
Alleging that drug smugglers have a free run in Kerala, former Opposition leader and AICC Working Committee Member Chennithala said the CPI(M)-led Left Government lacks will power to crush the entire network of the drug menace.
Pointing out the lack of police action against the drug mafia during the current CPI(M) regime, Chennithala recalled the success of 'Operation Kubera' - a special drive against illegal money lenders - during his tenure as Home Minister in the previous Congress-led UDF Government in Kerala.
Through the 'Operation Kerala' drive, the police could root out illegal money lenders who charge exorbitant rates of interest and exploit the poor during his tenure, he added.
"Just passing a resolution against drug mafia with the support of Opposition does not make any impact unless there is proper action plan against the rampant drug abuse," he felt.
Chennithala, who moved an adjournment motion over the rising drug menace in Kerala, told the State Legislative Assembly that "even after nine years in power, there had been no significant anti-drug initiatives by the CPI(M) Government."
Throughout his speech in the State Assembly, Chennithala repeatedly addressed the Chief Minister as "Mr. Chief Minister," and alleged that his Home Department failed to address this serious matter. UNI DS SSP
