New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) has announced the appointment of former Chief Justice of India, Dr Justice D Y Chandrachud, as a Distinguished Professor.
In a landmark development, the university will also establish a Centre for Constitutional Studies, with Justice Chandrachud leading the research direction.
The Centre aims to become a hub for academic scholarship in constitutional law under his intellectual stewardship.
Speaking about the collaboration, NLU Delhi Vice-Chancellor Prof G S Bajpai said, "Justice Chandrachud's legacy in constitutional morality, transformative constitutionalism, and the dynamic interpretation of fundamental rights offers unparalleled empirical and doctrinal material for academic inquiry."
The partnership is expected to significantly strengthen NLU Delhi’s teaching and research initiatives, with a special focus on constitutional law.
Additionally, the university will launch a new lecture series, titled ‘In the Spirit of Justice: The DYC Distinguished Lecture Series’, starting in July 2025.
The series will critically engage with landmark judgments authored by the 50th Chief Justice of India, covering areas such as privacy rights, LGBTQ and equality, gender justice, digital freedoms, and judicial reforms through Justice Chandrachud’s interpretive lens.
