Kerala's LDF govt committed to drug mafia: KPCC chief

Kannur, Mar 14 (UNI) Accusing the state's Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of being "committed" to the drug mafia, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K Sudhakaran on Friday alleged the state has become a land of drugs.
Sudhakaran alleged that the LDF government was aiming to generate income by selling alcohol and drugs, while the "CPI(M)'s Students organisation Students Federation of India (SFI) leaders are aiding the drug trade in college campuses".
"The last example is reported today by the arrest of three students from the Government Polytechnic College, at Kalamassery in Ernakulam district during a combined raid conducted in the men's hostel by Narcotic Cell, DANSAF and police and seized around two Kilograms of Ganja (cannabis) and electronic weighing machine on last night," he said.
Sudhakaran said, " that it was not right to release on bail those arrested in the ganah hunt at the Kalamassery polytechnic men's hostel". He said, "Those who are carrying toddy and gang cannot be called students and strict actions are needed against those persons.
He alleged that the ruling LDF did not take any action to prevent the spread of drugs and liquor on the campus. He also said in all the drug cases, where CPI(M) or its related organisation members are accused, they are routinely released on bail.
"At the same time, the police officials who arrested the CPI(M) members will be suspended or transferred, accordingly as a punishment for this immediately. The state has reached a point where LDF leaders and activists make a living by selling drugs," he said.
Sudhakaran demanded that inspections be strengthened everywhere to prevent the spread of drugs and the people of Kerala should unite to free this state from the hands of drugs. "The KPCC has declared war to free it from drug addiction and the people must decide whether they want a peaceful and harmonious social life," he said.
Meanwhile, college principal Dr Aiju Thomas suspended three students M Akash (21) of Kollam, Adithyan (20) of Haripad and SFI leader and College union General Secretary R Abhiraj (21) of Karunagappally, in relation to their arrest in a narcotics case in the men's hostel. UNI AK SSP
