KSLTA to host first-ever SM Krishna Memorial Tournament

Bengaluru, Mar 24 (UNI) The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), under the leadership of its President and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka, R Ashoka, is set to host the inaugural SM Krishna Memorial Tournament – an ITF Men’s M25 event with a prize purse of 30,000 USD. The tournament will take place from March 31 to April 6 at the KSLTA Stadium.
The prestigious tournament is a joint initiative by KSLTA and the Karnataka State Government, conceptualised as a tribute to the late former Chief Minister of Karnataka, SM Krishna. A passionate tennis enthusiast, Krishna helmed KSLTA as its President from 1999 to 2020 and also served as Life President of the All India Tennis Association (AITA) from 2015 to 2023.
Krishna played a pivotal role in upgrading KSLTA’s facilities, transforming it from a neglected clay court into a state-of-the-art tennis stadium in the heart of Bengaluru. Under his leadership, world-class tournaments such as the Legends Tour, World Doubles Championships, and WTA Indian Open—featuring stars like Serena and Venus Williams—were brought to the city.
