Lake Club to host 50th All India Invitational Regatta at Rabindra Sarobar from May 11-17

Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) About 40 schools across the city and some from outskirt are expected to take part in the 50th edition of All India Invitational Schools Regatta to be held at picturesque Rabindra Sarobar course in south Kolkata from May 11-17
The 7-day rowing, being organised by the Lake Club is the only venue where the young and budding rowers hone the skill for excellence in the water sport with logistical and training support for a fee of Rs 1 per month, a unique of its kind which is beyond reach for any individual, one of the organisers said while preparing the contestants for the events in pairs and fours.
The week-long competition will witness over 40 schools, both boys and girls, comprising more than fifty crew in junior and senior categories, racing against each other for the coveted trophies.
Total number of participants will be more than 300.
The championship will be held both for traditional and Indoor Rowing.
This championship has been recognized by the Rowing Federation of India (RFI), the apex body of Indian Rowing as an event of national importance.
The championship will be inaugurated at 4.00 pm on Sunday ( May 11) by state urban development minister and city Mayor Firhad Hakim.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has agreed to be the chief guest on the finals to be rowed on Saturday (May 17) and give away the prizes to the winners.
