MI manage to post modest 155/8 against GT

Mumbai, May 6 (UNI) Mumbai Indians endured a faltering innings at the Wankhede but managed to post a modest total of 155 for 8 in their 20 overs against Gujarat Titans in Match 56 of IPL 2025, thanks largely to a spirited late flourish by Corbin Bosch here on Tuesday.

Put in to bat after losing the toss, MI got off to a shaky start. Ryan Rickelton (2) fell early, poking at a delivery from Mohammed Siraj in the very second ball of the innings. Rohit Sharma looked to anchor but was dismissed for 7 after a mistimed aerial shot off Arshad Khan was safely pouched by Prasidh Krishna at mid-off (26/2).

The early damage was somewhat repaired by Will Jacks, who sparkled with a 35-ball 53, peppered with five boundaries and three sixes. Despite being dropped twice – once by Siraj and once by Sai Sudharsan – Jacks made Gujarat pay with some audacious strokeplay, including a stylish extra-cover six off Rashid Khan and a straight drive reminiscent of Sachin Tendulkar off Prasidh.

However, his dismissal in the 12th over to Rashid Khan — caught in the deep by Sudharsan — triggered a collapse. MI slumped from a promising 97/2 to 113/6 in a matter of three overs. Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 24) played a typically busy knock before mistiming a lofted drive off Sai Kishore to Shahrukh Khan.

Skipper Hardik Pandya (1) and Tilak Varma (7) perished cheaply, both falling to sharp catches by Shubman Gill, who had an outstanding day in the field.

The lower order struggled to stitch meaningful partnerships until Bosch stepped up with a spirited cameo. Entering at No 8, Bosch smacked 27 off 22 balls, including two sixes off Prasidh Krishna in the penultimate over – one a swivelling pull over square leg and the other a reverse-swept slog over backward point. His effort lifted MI from a precarious 123/7 to the 150-mark.

Bosch's entertaining stay ended in a dramatic fashion on the penultimate ball of the innings when a wild return from the deep was expertly collected by Jos Buttler, who dove forward to run him out with a direct hit. Deepak Chahar finished unbeaten on 8 and struck a boundary off the final delivery, ensuring MI reached 155.

Among the bowlers, Sai Kishore was the pick, with figures of 4-0-34-2, getting key scalps of Suryakumar and Hardik. Prasidh Krishna was expensive but effective (4-0-37-1), while Rashid Khan kept things tight with 1 for 21. Siraj, despite an expensive last over, finished with 1 for 29, having delivered a sharp opening spell.

Gujarat, who have been exceptional chasing this season, will back themselves to hunt down the target under lights. But MI bowlers, led by Bumrah and Boult, will hope for early inroads to make a match of it.

Score Summary (MI innings): 155/8 in 20 overs (Will Jacks 53, Suryakumar Yadav 35; Sai Kishore 2/34, Rashid Khan 1/21).
