Maha: Unique Prisoner Release project gains momentum

Mumbai, Mar 20 (UNI) A Unique Prisoner Release Project is currently operational in 10 jails across Maharashtra which has emerged as an example for correctional facilities across India.
The Prisoner Release Project is being run by the Mumbai-headquartered Global Care Foundation.
Since its inception in 2017, around 2,000 prisoners have been released and rehabilitated successfully under the project.
The project is offering them a second chance in life.
However, only after this rigorous vetting process does the foundation initiate the bail process, ensuring that justice is served responsibly.
The Legal Aid Clinic of Global Care Foundation undertakes immense care.
“We have emerged as a transformative force in the field of crime prevention, reshaping the lives of thousands. With its unwavering commitment to justice and social rehabilitation, the organisation is not just working towards prisoner release but also paving the way for their reintegration into society as law-abiding citizens,” said Abid Ahmed Kundalam, Founder & Managing Trustee, Global Care Foundation.
Providing data till December 2024, a total of 1,068 prisoners have been released, of which 871 are males and 113 females.
Besides, 83 children have been released from the observation homes in Dongri in Mumbai, Bhiwandi in Thane district and Karjat in Raigad district.
“Our work does not end at release; it extends to rehabilitation and support, which is tailored to the needs of each individual. This support may include job assistance, skill development, educational support, or even setting up small-scale businesses to help them become self-reliant. In cases where families struggle to survive in the absence of their loved one, we provide ration support to sustain them until the prisoner is released,” said Kundalam.
