New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) The Ministry of External Affairs today sought to highlight the “utter misrepresentation of facts” over EAM S Jaishankar’s remarks two days ago on Operation Sindoor.
The MEA said that EAM Jaishankar had “stated that we had warned Pakistan at the start, which is clearly the early phase after Operation Sindoor’s commencement.
“This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement. This utter misrepresentation of facts is being called out.”
The MEA’s response came after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday slammed the Narendra Modi government accusing it of "informing" Pakistan ahead of strikes on terror infrastructure and calling it a "crime".
The former Congress president while sharing a video of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, questioned how many aircraft the Indian Air Force lost as a result of the information shared with Pakistan.
On his social media handle X, Rahul Gandhi said, "Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it". Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?"
The MEA also cited an excerpt from a briefing by the DGMO, where the latter is heard clearly saying:
“…and even though we did attempt to reach out and communicate our compulsions to strike at the heart of terror to my counterpart in the immediate wake of Operation Sindoor, the request was brusquely turned down with an intimation that a severe response was inevitable and in the offing.
“We were of course prepared, operations on the 7th and 8th, Air Marshal Bharti spoke”.
Notably, India on May seven launched Operation Sindoor and targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), killing more than 100 terrorists.
