Mirabai Chanu elected IWLF Athletes Commission chairperson

New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) In a significant development for Indian weightlifting, Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu has been elected as the Chairperson of the Athletes’ Commission of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF).
Expressing her gratitude, Chanu thanked the IWLF for entrusting her with the prestigious role. "I express my immense gratitude to the Indian Weightlifting Federation for electing me as the Chairperson of the Athletes Commission of the federation. I am extremely grateful to Sahdev Yadav Sir for showcasing faith in me. I also thank the committee members for unanimously voting for me," she stated.
Chanu, who has been a prominent figure in Indian sports, further added, "The opportunity to represent and uphold the voice of fellow weightlifters is a matter of great pride for me." She also acknowledged the support she has received over the years from her coach, Vijay, saying, "I also wish to thank my coach Vijay Sir, for their constant support and guidance."
Pledging to take her new responsibilities seriously, Chanu emphasised her commitment to advocating for the athletes' viewpoints. "I will work towards spreading the athletes' voice and viewpoints across all key channels to ensure we can continue to dedicatedly focus on the sport without being distracted by external factors," she affirmed.
Chanu's election is seen as a step forward in strengthening the representation of athletes within the Indian Weightlifting Federation, and her leadership is expected to further boost the growth and development of the sport in the country.
