Miraculous rescue of two buried under avalanche in Lahaul-Spiti

Lahaul-Spiti (Himachal Pradesh), Mar 18 (UNI) Two villagers were miraculously rescued alive after being buried under an avalanche in Mud village, Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh.
The event unfolded as locals ventured to a water source to collect water, a task made urgent by the region’s ongoing water crisis caused by heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures.
The villagers had placed four water tanks near the source, but these were buried under a glacier.
While digging through the snow to locate a new water supply, disaster struck. A sudden glacier collapse trapped two individuals under the snow. The community immediately rallied, and after a tense 10 to 15 minutes, both men were pulled out safely, unharmed and conscious.
Chewang, the village headman, expressed relief and gratitude, saying, “It was a day of immense risk. By God’s grace, both were saved. His blessings are always with us.”
Over the past week, Lahaul-Spiti has witnessed heavy snowfall, with temperatures plunging below freezing. This has frozen water pipelines, leaving residents without supply for days. The situation forced villagers to risk venturing out to natural sources, despite the dangers posed by unstable glaciers and avalanches. UNI ML SSP
