Miss World pageant estimated to cost Rs 54 crore : Telangana Minister

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (UNI) Telangana Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Thursday said the 72nd Miss World 2025 pageant to be held in Telangana, including Hyderabad, from May 7 to 31, is estimated to cost Rs 54 crore.
Addresing the pre-event press conference held at Begumpet Tourism Plaza here, he said the Telangana government will contribute Rs. 27 crore and the remaining funds will be raised through sponsors.
He expressed pride in hosting the prestigious Miss World 2025 pageant, calling it a golden opportunity to showcase Telangana's rich culture, traditions, and heritage on a global platform.
Rao highlighted that hosting the Miss World pageant was a visionary move by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He described the event as a remarkable opportunity to introduce Telangana’s unique cuisine, folk arts, historical landmarks, and natural beauty to a global audience.
The Minister emphasised that the pageant would blend the elegance of Telangana's cultural heritage with Indian traditions.
Calling the Miss World pageant a celebration of women’s inner beauty and empowerment, Rao underscored the significant role women play in societal development.
Drawing a parallel with South Korea’s global recognition through cultural icons like the Squid Game series and the BTS band, he expressed hope that Telangana would gain similar fame and economic benefits through this event.
The Minister also stressed that the pageant would boost employment opportunities for the youth, attract global investments, and enhance Telangana's tourism and business prospects.
Jupally urged critics not to politicise the event, reminding that beauty pageants symbolise women’s empowerment rather than political agendas.
Miss World 2024 Kristina Pizkova greeted attendees with a heartfelt “Namaste India” and praised the country for its rich culture and values. She shared her memorable visit to the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Yadagirigutta, describing the experience as unforgettable.
Tourism Principal Secretary Smita Sabharwal emphasised Telangana’s significance as a region with a rich historical legacy. She highlighted iconic structures such as the UNESCO-recognized Ramappa Temple, the Thousand Pillars Temple, Golconda Fort, Kakatiya Forts, and Charminar.

Sabharwal stated that the Miss World pageant would be a powerful platform to showcase Telangana’s cultural richness and growing prominence in medical tourism, cinema, and culinary arts.
