Mizoram observes Good Friday with solemn devotion

Aizawl, Apr 18 (UNI)Christian-majority Mizoram observed Good Friday with solemn devotion and deep spiritual fervour, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, believed by the faithful to have died for the redemption of mankind.
The sacred observance is marked by special Holy Mass services in churches of various denominations. The faithful participated in night-long vigils that recalled the arrest of Jesus by Roman soldiers at the Garden of Gethsemane, where he had gone to pray.
On Friday, churches held special worship services and prayers reflecting on the suffering and crucifixion of Christ. Members of the Catholic Church took out large-scale 'Way of the Cross' processions through the streets of Aizawl and in towns and villages across the state, reenacting Christ’s journey to Calvary.
Congregations of other major denominations, including the Presbyterian Church, Baptist Church, and United Pentecostal Church, organised special Good Friday services, featuring moving choir performances and hymns centred on Christ’s passion and sacrifice.
While some rural churches hosted community feasts to bring people together, most churches across the state chose to maintain a solemn atmosphere, with congregants spending the day in prayer and reflection within places of worship.
Unlike the fixed date of Christmas on December 25, Good Friday follows the Jewish Passover, typically falling on the Friday closest to the full moon after 14th Nisan, which generally occurs between March 20 and April 25. Easter is celebrated on the following Sunday, while Pentecost falls 50 days after Easter Sunday.
