MP: Rs 47.11 crore plan approved for wild elephant management

Bhopal, May 13 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved a plan worth around Rs 47.11 crore for the management of wild elephants, aiming to reduce human-pachyderm conflict in the state.

According to official information, the plan will focus on protecting and monitoring elephants in and around protected areas, habitat management, and development.
A control room will be set up to monitor wild elephants, and various structures will be constructed to prevent human-wildlife conflict. E-surveillance will be established, and rescue and rehabilitation efforts for wildlife will be undertaken.

The plan also includes training for villagers, forest department officials, and other stakeholders to deal with human-elephant conflict. Various types of fencing, including solar fencing, will be constructed and a rapid response team formed alongside procuring necessary equipment.
Patrolling vehicles and radio collars will be purchased for monitoring and tracking. An "Elephant Friend" team will also be constituted.

For the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25, a total of Rs 1 crore 52 lakh 54 thousand has been spent on elephant conservation and monitoring. For the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27, Rs 20 crore and Rs 25 crore 59 lakh 15 thousand, respectively, have been allocated. UNI XC AKT SSP
