Three family members killed in rockfall near Lengpui Airport

Aizawl, Apr 28 (UNI) In a tragic incident, three members of a family lost their lives after massive rocks collapsed onto their car along the Aizawl-Lengpui Airport road around 3:45 pm on Monday, police said.
The rockfall, triggered by heavy rains, occurred near Pukpui Waterfall, not far from Lengpui. Four family members were travelling in a Hyundai i10 when the accident took place.
According to sources from Sairang Police Station, the deceased have been identified as Lalrinliana, his wife Lungtiawii, and their daughter Vanlalhruaii. Their son, Lallawmzuala, who was behind the wheel, survived the incident but sustained injuries.
The car was crushed beyond recognition, and it took several hours for rescue teams to retrieve the bodies from the debris.
The stretch of road where the accident occurred, part of National Highway-44A, is known to be highly vulnerable to rockfalls, ranking above 500 in India’s rockfall hazard rating system.
