Bodies of two victims of Pahalgam terror attack comes to Kolkata

Kolkata, Apr 23 (UNI) The bodies of two victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, arrived at their residences here on Wednesday evening.
Bitan Adhikari, an IT professional employed by a multinational company in Florida, USA, resided at Baishnabghata in the city's southern outskirts. Sameer Guha, a senior statistical officer with the central government, was a resident of Behala in the south weastern part of the metropolis.
The bodies earlier reached Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here at around 8.15 pm and were received by state power minister Aroop Biswas.
Sources in the state home department said that the corpse of the remaining victim, Manish Ranjan, a DSP officer of the IB department posted in Hyderabad, will reach his residence in Purulia district on Thursday. His body will land at Ranchi airport and from there it will reach his residence by road.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “We are constantly in touch with the families and the central government. We are with the families.
“Today, there was a meeting of the state Cabinet. The matter was also discussed at the meeting. The terrorists do not have any class or religion, and should be shown no mercy," she said.
"I can’t fathom how so many people were targeted and killed so selectively. Adequate army personnel were deployed in Pahalgam—it’s a sensitive area near the International Border (IB)," the Chief Minister told reporters after visiting a city-based private hospital in Kolkata, where Governor C.V. Ananda Bose is currently admitted.
Three individuals from West Bengal, including an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The victims have been identified as Samir Guha, Bitan Adhikari, and Manish Ranjan. Guha and Adhikari were residents of Kolkata, while Ranjan hailed from the Purulia district and was serving as an IB officer in Hyderabad.
Bitan Adhikari had returned to his family home in Patuli, Kolkata, on April 8 for a vacation and travelled to Kashmir on April 16 with his wife Sohini and their son Hridan. Bitan was scheduled to return to Kolkata on Thursday.
Samir Guha was also vacationing in Kashmir. Manish Ranjan, the IB officer, had been posted in Hyderabad at the time of the incident.
“Those who are in power in the country and make tall claims about the internal security of the country should take responsibility for the massacre. So many people were killed just because of the security lapses,” said Minister Arup Biswas. UNI XC SSP
