Odisha Agriculture Department receives 'Jury Choice Award' under digital initiative

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19 (UNI) The Krushi Samruddhi Advisory System, a digital agricultural extension mechanism developed by the Agriculture Department of Odisha, has received ''Jury Choice Award'' under digital initiative in Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment category.
The Agriculture Department was honoured with this award at a ceremony organized by the Economic Times Conclave during the DigiTech Awards 2025 held on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated the Agriculture Department for receiving this recognition, highlighting its efforts in providing real-time, data-driven advisories to farmers, thereby empowering them and transforming agriculture in Odisha.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, also extended his congratulations to the department for this achievement.
The Principal Resident Commissioner of the Odisha Government accepted the award on behalf of the Agriculture Department at the event.
Agricultural extension plays a crucial role in equipping farmers with the knowledge and techniques necessary to improve their agricultural productivity. It ensures that the latest advancements in farming are accessible to those working on the ground.
Traditionally, agricultural services and extension support have been delivered by Village Agriculture Workers (VAWs) through direct one-on-one interactions or small-group training sessions. However, the state faces a high farmer-to-VAW ratio (2500:1), leading to a lack of personalized and timely advisory services for farmers.
Recognizing these challenges and the potential of technology, the Odisha Government launched Krushi Samruddhi, a digital extension initiative aimed at providing innovative and efficient advisory services to farmers.
Krushi Samruddhi is a two-way, voice-based platform that delivers weekly audio messages to farmers and allows them to call in for free, ask questions, and receive real-time responses from local agronomists.
The service covers a wide range of agricultural topics, including land preparation, seed selection, appropriate fertilizer application, and post-harvest management. Additionally, farmers receive non-agronomic information, such as government schemes for agricultural households and updates on minimum support prices for key crops.
Currently, through its integration with the Krushak Odisha database, Krushi Samruddhi delivers over 2,000 customized advisories based on farmer-specific data and needs, reaching more than 7.5 million (75 lakh) farmers across the state.
Efforts are underway to further enhance the system by incorporating AI/ML models, remote sensing technology, and satellite data, enabling the delivery of more personalized and accurate advisories in the future, official sources said.
